Medical Screening

The goal is determining a person’s physical and mental abilities and/or disabilities in relation to the duties he/she needs to perform.

HCCO is using specific screening profiles for each job.

The ministry of labour of Suriname has appointed HCCO to be the exclusive provider in Suriname of legally obligated medical screenings.

HCCO offers a variety in medical screenings:

  • Pre-employment screening: based on the physical requirements of the job
  • Offshore medical examination
    (OEUK: [formerly OGUK/UKOOA] & Element [formerly NOGEPA/OLF])
  • Annual company health checkups
  • Pulmonary function testing and evaluation
  • Operators/drivers screening
  • security/emergency responders screening
  • Food handlers screening

  • Legally obligated medical screenings:
    • Asbestos screening
    • Radiation screening
Both screenings are done when there is a possible exposure to asbestos or radiation. They are performed pre-employment, periodic and by exit.

Good screening is the start of a successful Health and Absence management

Pre-employment medical screening

Pre-employment screening has two important functions:

  • Determination of an individual’s fitness for duty without risks for frequent absenteeism, including the ability to work while wearing protective equipment.
  • Provision of baseline data for comparison with future medical data.

HCCO is using specific screening profiles for each job.

Periodic medical screening

Based on the Workplace Health Risk Assessment our OH physician will develop Periodic medical screening profiles for SEG’s. These profiles are based on the Workplace Health Risks and used in conjunction with pre-employment screening examinations. Comparison of sequential medical reports with baseline data is essential to determine biological trends that may mark early signs of adverse health effects. The frequency and contents of examinations will vary, depending on the nature of the work and exposures. HR will receive a certificate that employee is (still) fit to perform his duty.

Exit medical screening

At the end of employment all employees should have a medical examination equal to the Pre-Employment medical screening, to determine health issues that employees or contractors may have gained during the period of their employment or contracting.

This screening may be limited to obtaining an interval medical history of the period since the last full screening (consisting of medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests).
